This week Taylor Swift released a re-recorded version of her 2008 album Fearless. She did so in protest against the rights to the first six of her album’s masters being bought and sold by music business powerbroker Scooter Braun. Fearless (Taylor’s Version) is shaping up to be one of the biggest musical releases of the year. The album has proven to be not only a bold personal statement but a savvy business move as well.
Taylor Swift Defies Expectation
Outsiders are astonished at Taylor Swift and her album’s success. After all, the world of music does not boast the most impressive track record when it comes to artists rerecording their work. But could fans have expected any less?
Taylor Swift’s Remarkable Journey
After all, this is far from Taylor’s first public outcry against mistreatment in the music industry and the media. Drawing on lessons learnt from the groundbreaking documentary ‘Framing Britney Spears‘ the third episode of The Glitter and Gold Podcast takes a deep dive into another remarkable woman. During the podcast, host Emily Hollitt (Malina Claire) examines Swift’s battle to control her story. In doing so she demonstrates how sexist media coverage attempted to tear down a young Taylor Swift. Hollitt then reveals how, in response, Swift weaponised these words to regain control over her reputation.
