On July 9, Caytlan Koljndrekaj—owner of Rebel Rebel Agency in Fortitude Valley—visited Glitter Records. She came to shoot a set of photos for an interview with Scenstr Magazine, capturing the storefront on California Lane, where we operate day-to-day. Scenstr ended up only needing a handful of images. Which is why I think it is a good idea to share the rest of them with you here.

Welcome to Glitter Records

Here at the shopfront, between 5,000 to 8,000 items are on display at any given time. We didn’t make it to the warehouse. It’s where most of our 38,000 catalogued musical items are carefully shelved, studied, and identified.

A Photographer’s Approach

Unlike fashion shoots, Caytlan’s photography here focuses on real moments. While she often works with models, she enjoys photographing everyday people. Here, she tells me, it’s less about directing and more about observing.

During the visit, she let me work uninterrupted—no poses, no staging. I’m left with the imrpession she wanted to document something authentic. I like that. It reflects Glitter Records and how we operate.

Slowness in Practice

Before becoming the founder of Glitter Records, I worked as a music journalist.

For five years, I interviewed hundreds of artists, flew all over Australia to music festivals, and wrote hundreds of reviews and news pieces— most published within minutes, often read just as quickly.

I was always on the hustle. Juggling side jobs to keep the dream alive. Always chasing the next invoice, always hoping for steadier work as a writer.

High volume. Rapid turnover. Constant movement.

It was fast. It was uncertain. And it was driven by urgency. There was little depth.

Now, I run Glitter Records. I invest my energy into something that grows with meaning over time. The pace is still full, but the rhythm has changed—slower, more deliberate, and attuned to what matters most.

Here, I have more room to take in music, people, and what’s happening around me locally here in Brisbane.

The rhythm has changed. Still busy, but now there’s space to take things in deliberately and with intention. In a way that reveals more.

A Different Kind of Time

Slowness isn’t delay. It’s a form of attention. It allows for looking, thinking, and feeling with care.

Meaning doesn’t rush. It emerges. We learn to notice what’s overlooked, to move with intention, to listen fully.

For me, Caytlan’s photos capture that spirit. They don’t shout, they observe, and they show the store as it is.
